VARIATIONS OF A DAFFODIL

  _DSC0354

Daffodils are the harbinger of springtime. With blades of grass-green stems and trumpet-like blooms of buttercream-yellow or apricot-hued, these spring beauties are nothing but a delight to have around the house this time of year.

Somehow my days alway’s seem brighter with these lovelies on my desk.

POWER TO THE PEONY

 PEONY the flower of radiance

I think most people have an affinity for peonies, maybe it’s their much anticipated appearance in spring by garden enthusiasts or their wildly beautiful blooms but not many flowers have THIS much impact throughout their flowering life. I picked up my first bouquet of the season this week at the flower mart. So excited! Have you ever really watched their transformation? Pure pleasure. My go to color is white- elegant and pure, with a mass of petals that resemble fluffy white clouds.

A BABY SHOWER

I had such a great time putting together another event this month. Dinner was served in the garden- family style that we prepared along with dessert from a local bakery and we had an awesome candy and dessert bar (literally the hit of the night!) Shopping for ingredients, talking to farmers and butcher’s, and establishing relationships is so important to me. I shop at farmers markets and buy local as much as I can; coming from a background in organic farming, there really isn’t any other option.

FLOWER POWER

This week I made a few different bouquets for my client- one for the perfect hostess gift, one for a friend in the hospital and the last one for a teenager’s birthday party. I usually pick the same color flower in varying hues and add one flower for texture. I’m not a big fan of too many color combinations or too many different blooms; less is MORE. The STATEMENT is greater. I also like to use one type of flower (like the bouquet I did above) for a modern spin on a traditional flower.

LAVENDER SEA SALT

I have a bit of an obsession with lavender. To put it mildly… It’s literally in every room of my home and I’m constantly finding new ways to use it. Here is a simple Lavender Salt that I’ve been experimenting with over the last couple months. Since it’s grilling season, I’ve been using it as a rub on meats and vegetables or sprinkled on potatoes. Try it on savory crackers, baked bread or as an addition to a salted rim on your cocktail glass!
